I am a senior shareholder at Sommers Schwartz.  In addition, I am also a registered nurse in the state of Michigan, which gives me a depth of valuable knowledge in medical malpractice cases.

As a plaintiff’s attorney, the leading association is MAJ (Michigan Association of Justice).   Over the years, I have been appointed to the MAJ Executive Board; Chairperson to the MAJ Judicial Qualifications Committee and Chairperson of the MAJ Amicus Committee.

I feel it’s important that I have a presence and be a model for the role Michigan women can play in law.   My professionalism and expertise has also been recognized by the Judiciary. This last September when the Michigan Supreme Court Judicial Conference wanted an attorney to give our Michigan’s appellate judges an update on medical malpractice law, its issues and problems, they asked me to speak.

Much of my professional practice has focused on the rights of women. Unfortunately, among medical malpractice claims there are those where the physician abuses the patient physician relationship becomes intimate with his patient. Most medical malpractice attorneys shy away from these cases. The damages are usually limited. There is always the consensual relationship gone bad then to court defense. I have never shied away from such claims. Protecting women in such vulnerable situations is not about money, but about what was right.  My concern for the needs and concerns of women is also evident from my many cases involving birth injuries.
