Biography
Marcy Newman is recognized as a leading domestic relations attorney in Chicago and across Illinois. She is a skilled counselor with significant experience advising clients as they navigate life-changing events and legal matters crucial to their futures. Since 1979, Ms. Newman has focused exclusively on family law and the issues inherent to divorce, parental allocation, paternity, and separation. She is also a trained mediator, and has been appointed in numerous cases as a Guardian Ad Litem on behalf of minor children.
Representing clients in both traditional and same sex relationships, men and women, she uses her expertise and compassion to guide spouses, life partners and families through the process. Marcy has extensive experience in all aspects of family law including, but not limited to: divorce, legal separation, child support modification, division of assets, maintenance awards, modification of maintenance awards, allocation of parental rights and responsibilities (f/k/a custody), and drafting of prenuptial agreements.
Ms. Newman is recognized by her peers for her contributions to family law. Every year since 2006, she has been named an Illinois Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers, an honor requiring a nomination by fellow attorneys in domestic relations, and available to only 5 percent of the lawyers in the state. In 2013 and 2014 Chicago Magazine recognized her as one of the Top 50 Women Attorneys in the State of Illinois, and she has been named a “Leading Lawyer.”
