Environmental and Business Law services for property owners, businesses, local governments. Includes decades of experience dealing with EPA and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.
Special Assistant Attorney General, State of Alabama, appointed by Governor Guy Hunt and State AG Don Siegleman for Clean Water Act enforcement.
Admitted to practice before Supreme Court of United States, United States Court of Appeals 11th Circuit, all USDC in Alabama.
Represents major MSW industrial facilities in West Alabama. Defends several businesses involved in CERCLA, RCRA enforcement actions brought by EPA and ADEM.
In 1996, Mr. Slawson was counsel to a group of Alabama citizens who prevailed in a $3 billion Clean Water Act suit, Kipp, et.al. v. Jefferson County, 2:93-CV-02492-JFG-PWG. This case has resulted in the complete overhaul of Jefferson County’s sewage treatment practices and provided a model for CWA settlements nationwide. It also established a $30 million greenway project for Jefferson County, the largest ever undertaken in the US.
Slawson also participated in a suit which forced EPA to set TMDLs (total daily pollution limits) for all impaired water bodies in Alabama and will lead to a dramatic decrease of pollution discharge into the state’s waters.
