Mr. King graduated first in his class at the University of Illinois College of Business, where he majored in Accountancy. He graduated fourth in his class at the University of Illinois College of Law, achieving summa cum laude, Order of the Coif, and Harno Scholar distinctions. He also received Rickert Awards for Excellence in Academics and Excellence in Legal Writing and served on the Illinois Law Review as Topics Editor. His paper, "When Virtual Reality Becomes Real: Taxation of CryptoCurrencies" was the grand prize winner of the Paul Faherty Tax Law Writing Competition, a national competition, and was published online. Mr. King also received CALI awards for achieving the highest grade in six different courses in law school, including International Intellectual Property, Trial Advocacy, Business Associations, Legal Research, Introduction to Advocacy, and Federal Tax Policy. During law school, Mr. King worked at a prestigious central Illinois law firm, where he conducted research and drafted motions, pleadings, and other documents.

Mr. King has toured with a variety of bands since he was eleven years old, with most of his time spent playing banjo, fiddle, bass, guitar, and piano and singing back-up vocals in his family's bluegrass band (The King Family Band). The King Family Band has two original songs that reached #1 on the RadioActive Airplay Americana charts. Mr. King has participated in music competitions since his childhood, leading him to win the Illinois State Banjo Competition in 2009. Mr. King also thoroughly enjoys any outdoor and physical activities and is a tri-athlete.
