Gideon v. Wainwright, 372 U.S. 335 (1963)
Gideon v. Wainwright
Clarence Gideon was homeless man accused of burglary. He could not afford an attorney. Nevertheless, he took his case to the United States Supreme Court in 1963 and won. He successfully argued that those who cannot afford an attorney should be provided with one. With his case as our guiding principle and namesake, we seek to meet the needs of our community by bridging the gap between an overloaded public defense system and the high expense of private defense counsel.
