Practicing criminal law is the best thing I've done in a long and varied career.  It gives true meaning to my life and to all things I value greatly: the protection of ordinary people against the enormous power of the government, which can take away our liberty, our freedom and even our lives.  A felony conviction in this country stays with you forever.  You can't vote or own a weapon, if you are convicted of a crime, unless your rights are restored by a Court, after you have completed your sentence.  

For the rest of your life you will have problems finding a job, housing, some benefits will be taken away from you, such as Veteran's benefits, for example.  You will have to admit you've been convicted for the rest of your life as well.

With these high stakes, you must have a strong defense and every effort must be made to resolve the case on the best possible terms for you and your future.  This takes time, work, creativity and the willingness to keep going, even when things look dark.  We can never say what a judge or a jury will do in any case--it's illegal and unethical for a lawyer to do so.  Any lawyer who promises you a specific result is simply wrong and unethical.
