Biography
In 1987, my dad, a Montana cattleman, was a juror in the criminal trial of a man accused of murdering Terrance and Marie Duffy (parents of actor Patrick Duffy from the television show “Dallas”). While Dad could not comment on the daily happenings of trial, he often commented on the professional and honorable manner in which the judge and lawyers conducted themselves. He came away from that experience with a new-found respect for the legal profession and encouraged me to pursue law as a career.
In 2001, I was lucky enough to make Dad proud when I graduated from the J. Reuben Clark Law School and begin practicing law in Utah, first as a clerk to Judge Dee Benson and then in Stoel Rives’ litigation group. Since joining Stoel Rives, I have devoted my litigation practice to understanding my client's unique perspectives to give them the best service I can give them. That has led to positive results an even better friendships.
I also believe that the legal profession is about giving back to the community and, as such, I have devoted significant time to public service. I served on the Salt Lake City Housing Advisory and Appeals Board for two years and, for the past 6-years, I have sat on the Farmington City Board of Adjustment. I also served as a small claim judge for over four years in Layton. I have also been very active in pro bono service. I am currently the Pro Bono Coordinator for the entire Stoel Rives Frim and have served as Stoel Rives’ Pro Bono Coordinator for its Salt Lake City office for the past 7-years. I have also handled a variety of pro bono cases. I currently serve on the board of the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center and litigate cases there on a pro bono basis. I also co-chair the Modest Means Committee of the Utah State Bar.
When it comes to serving my family, my clients, and my community, I am "all in."
