Biography
Derek Musa is a senior associate in Hogan Lovells' Litigation group and has represented some of the world's most prominent financial institutions, investment funds and technology firms. He maintains a broad practice focused on complex commercial litigation, with particular experience in securities and antitrust litigation.
Since joining Hogan Lovells in 2014, Derek has handled a variety of matters for foreign and domestic clients. Derek’s recent representations include defense of numerous hedge funds in federal securities litigation across the country, defense of a foreign branch of a "Big Four" audit firm in an accounting liability action brought by investment funds that lost money in Bernard L. Madoff's Ponzi scheme, and defense of a major mortgage lender in a direct borrower action. Derek also maintains an active pro bono practice, which includes assisting an Iraqi refugee and her family seeking resettlement in the United States in order to escape persecution in her home country.
Prior to joining Hogan Lovells, Derek spent five years as a litigation associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP. While at Cravath, Derek gained a wide range of experience representing corporate defendants in high-stakes securities, antitrust, patent, and shareholder derivative litigation. He also gained significant experience handling FTC antitrust investigations and securing antitrust regulatory approvals.
While in law school, Derek was a member of the Fordham Law Review. He also served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Carol Robinson Edmead of the New York State Supreme Court.
