Biography
My practice focuses on immigration law. I am passionate about assiting families and employees in gaining immigration status, asylum seekers avoiding persecution and children reuniting with families.
I became interested in immigration law as a participant in the University of Louisville Immigration Law Clinic. This experience enabled me to win the New York University Law School’s Immigration Moot Court Competition. More recently, I spent several months in Central America working with the Human Rights Commission of Belize, studying Spanish and traveling widely throughout the region. Through these experiences I committed myself to assisting individuals in navigating the complex immigration system.
While in law school I won the Pirtle-Washer Oral Advocacy Competition and competed in the National Moot Court Competition at the Fourth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals. As a Marshall-Brennan Fellow I taught a civil liberties course for high school seniors. I also served as an IOLTA Fellow, President of the International Law Society, published editor of the Journal of Law and Education and I received the Robert C. Jayes Memorial Award for Humanitarian and Civic Involvement.
I practiced criminal defense for nearly three years before focusing exclusively on immigration law. I litigated numerous misdemeanors and felonies including several homicides and achieved multiple acquittals through jury verdict. I received the Walker Award for excellence in a felony jury trial where the client faced up to life in prison if convicted.
