Choosing a lawyer:

I strongly believe that the most important part of selecting a lawyer is talking with them, preferably in person. Use all the resources available to you to consider potential lawyers. But if your case goes to trial, your lawyer will be the one standing beside you in court. So you need to be comfortable with them, and a face-to-face meeting is a good way to figure out if you are comfortable.

Communication:

You will be able to reach your lawyer and get a response. I communicate the same way you do. Texting for a simple question? No problem. Email for a longer one? Energy:

Your case is not just another file. It’s your only case and it is important. You deserve a lawyer who is excited about their craft. Too many lawyers are cynical, burned-out, or focused exclusively on profit. To do this well you must have the energy for the work. The third Ethical Rule for Virginia Lawyers is diligence – “a lawyer should act with commitment and dedication to the interests of the client and with zeal in advocacy…” This follows just after Rule 1, which is competence. You can’t zealously advocate for your clients if you lack enthusiasm.
