Biography
Attorney Elise Cossart-Daly fights discrimination and advocates for civil rights in housing, education, and employment. She supports non-profit organizations that champion environmental causes and underserved communities. She also promotes environmental preservation, protection of neighborhoods and communities, and responsible land use in both administrative proceedings and litigation.
Ms. Cossart-Daly advocated for environmental protection and housing rights as an attorney with public interest firm Venskus and Associates, A.P.C. She helped self-represented litigants with housing and general civil litigation matters at the Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County and represented individuals with disabilities in civil rights cases at Metz and Harrison, LLP.
Ms. Cossart-Daly graduated from Loyola Law School with honors in Loyola’s Public Interest Concentration. As a law student, she helped enforce anti-discrimination laws with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, assisted in excessive force cases against the Los Angeles Police Department, and served indigent clients with housing and employment matters at California Rural Legal Assistance. She also externed with the Honorable Harry Pregerson at the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
At Loyola Law School, she was Co-President of Loyola’s Environmental Law Society. In addition, she led the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (“IACHR”) Project as Chief Editor for Loyola of Los Angeles International and Comparative Law Review. Under her leadership, the IACHR Project launched the first-ever database and journal covering decisions rendered by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. She has published several articles on human rights abuses against women, indigenous communities, and people of color.
Ms. Cossart-Daly graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She has lived with type 1 diabetes for over thirty years.
