Biography
I focus my practice on serious cases of police misconduct and jail abuse, and frequently bring actions on behalf of those challenging unconstitutional governmental policies and practices. I began my career defending City employees, primarily police and correction officers, in federal civil rights damages actions and jury trials as an Assistant Corporation Counsel in New York City's Law Department. During my government service, I defended over 100 civil rights cases in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and worked on high profile class action, wrongful death and equal protection cases, among others.
Since entering private practice in 2010, I have handled a number of important cases, made new law in the area of civil rights, won several federal jury trials on behalf of plaintiffs and successfully argued before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals on the issues of qualified immunity and probable cause. I have been quoted in the New York Times and other publications, lectured on issues related to civil rights litigation and police misconduct and serve on the New York City Bar Association's Committee on Civil Rights.
I am an alumnus of Brooklyn Law School and a member of the Federal Bar Council and the National Police Accountability Project. I am admitted to practice in New York State, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
