Biography
I have been in the legal profession for 35 years, beginning as a law clerk in Iowa's Seventh Judicial District. Following my clerkship, I joined a litigation practice in Davenport, Iowa. In that practice, I focused on trial and appellate litigation in criminal, family, personal injury, and contract areas of the law. I represented approximately 25 individuals who were charged with or convicted of Class "A" felonies.
I was appointed as a District Associate Judge in Scott County in 1993. Governor Vilsack appointed me to the District Court in 1999. I retired from judicial service in 2013.
During my judicial service, I strove to adapt judicial procedures to improve efficiency for the judicial system, litigants, and lawyers. I helped design and implement the Scott County Drug Court program. I also served on advisory groups in both Clinton and Scott Counties that led to passage of bond referendums to update the jail facilities in those counties.
Following my retirement from judicial service, I re-entered the practice of law in litigation in both the trial and appellate courts in the fields of criminal, family, personal injury and contract law. I served on the Iowa Supreme Court's Family Law Task Force.
My current practice is focused on arbitration, mediation, and appellate litigation. I also will assist other attorneys in litigation issues.
