Biography
Gene Mechanic is a Portland, Oregon labor, employment and health law attorney who started his legal career as a litigator with the New York State Attorney’s General Office and who, as recognized by to the Oregonian newspaper, "has a history of legal success . . in three decades defending Oregon . . . employees. Oregonian columnist Steve Duin said that Gene "bears one of the great names in the history of the bar."

Gene has published many articles and is a frequent national and international speaker on labor, employment and health law, and legal ethics. He is a chapter editor of the American Bar Association’s “Developing Labor Law, 4th Edition, and a chapter editor of the 2011 edition of the Oregon State Bar’s Private Sector Labor and Employment Manual. Gene is a National Fellow of the prestigious College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and the 2006 recipient of the “Labor Practitioner of the Year Award” by the Labor and Employment Relations Association. He is past chair of the Oregon State Bar Labor and Employment Law Section and is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bar’s Health Law Section.

Gene has won many substantial jury verdicts, court decisions and settlements for clients in federal and state courts, both at the trial and appellate levels. Gene is admitted to practice law in Oregon, New York, and Florida and has argued in the United States Supreme Court.
