Biography
George graduated summa cum laude from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, having majored in insurance and real estate. He received a Juris Doctor degree from Campbell University School of Law. While in law school, George served as Business Editor of the Campbell Law Review and authored a published Note in that journal. He was also a member of the ABA National Criminal Justice Trial Team and was named to the Order of Barristers.
Prior to attending law school, George spent a year working for an independent property/casualty insurance agency, three years with the Group Health Department of the Travelers Insurance Company, and seven years as a stockbroker/certified financial planner for E. F. Hutton. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves for ten years, and served his last three years as a Captain.
George's primary practice areas are complex insurance and bad faith issues, defense of insurance agents, defense of brokers and dealers in FINRA arbitrations, products and general liability cases, and workers’ compensation. He is a member of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the Wake County Bar Association. George is also an active member of Defense Research Institute’s Insurance Law Committee. He regularly attends the annual Insurance Coverage and Claims Institute Seminar in Chicago and the Insurance Coverage Practice Seminar in New York.
He has frequently lectured about workers’ compensation and liability issues. He was a speaker on workers compensation in 2005 for the Association of NC Insurance Adjusters. In 2006 and 2007, he was a panel speaker on suitable employment for the NC Chapter of International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals. He was a speaker at the 30th Annual NC Mine and Safety Conference in 2007, and a presenter for continuing education in 2009 for the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys. In 2010 and 2011, George has spoken about workers’ compensation issues for Job Ready Services continuing education programs. Since 2009, he has spoken annually at the quarterly and annual meetings for North Carolina Public Risk Management Association on government immunity issues, liability case law updates, and workers compensation tort reform.
George is admitted to practice in all courts of the State of North Carolina, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Middle Districts of North Carolina. In 2008, he was named by the Triangle Business Leader as one of the Top Lawyers in Trial/Litigation and in 2013 and 2014 he was listed in Best Lawyers in America for Workers’ Compensation-Employers. He has also earned the highest (AV-Rated) ranking awarded by Martindale-Hubbell.
