The government has an enormous amount of power.   Our criminal justice system is designed to overwhelm the individual and produce guilty pleas.  The United States has just 5% of the world’s population but we incarcerate almost a quarter of the world’s prisoners.

I can help balance the scales.  I believe in individual rights, compassion, and putting people in a position to be their best selves.  I will listen carefully to your priorities, and will always be honest with you.  I am committed to giving each client complete and clear counsel, every step of the way.  I am an experienced trial lawyer, use creative strategies, and fight to get the best possible result for each and every client.

I also work to make the criminal justice system more fair and humane.  I'm proud to serve on the Oregon State Bar's Uniform Criminal Jury Instructions Committee, the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association's Legislative Committee, Oregon Justice Resource Center's Amicus Committee, and ACLU's cooperating attorney panel.
