Biography
As head of Tully Rinckey PLLC’s Military and National Security Law Practice Group, Greg oversees the firm’s coast-to-coast team of military law attorneys, which is comprised of former judge advocates. He has also assisted a range of government employees and contractors as well as service members in navigating the federal security clearance process.
Having served as an active duty and Reserve defense attorney for the Army, Greg is intimately familiar with the unique legal issues service members, current and aspiring security clearance holders, veterans and their families face. As a Partner at Tully Rinckey PLLC, he handles cases involving security clearance representation, non-judicial punishment, courts-martial, letters of reprimand, officer/enlisted separation proceedings and military divorce, among others.
Greg’s robust experience in the realm of national security clearance representation ranges from covert federal agents with intelligence agencies at the highest levels of the nation’s national defense establishment, to high-ranking officers across all branches of the U.S. Military. Greg continues to work with Tully Rinckey PLLC’s National Security Law Practice Group to assist clients in retaining or securing their security clearance. His capabilities include the following:
• SF85, SF85p, SF-86, OF306 and DD Form 1879 pre-clearance counseling;
• Investigative interview preparation;
• Responses to interrogatories;
• Responses to Statement of Reasons (SORs), Letter of Revocation, and Denial of Suitability;
• Hearing requests; and
• Representation before the Defense Office of Hearing and Appeals (DOHA), Department of Defense, FBI, CIA, DHS, and all federal government agencies, including document and witness preparation.
Before joining Tully Rinckey PLLC, Greg spent nearly two decades practicing law in the private and public sectors. During that time, he litigated over 50 jury trials and over 200 non-jury trials. He is a former senior defense counsel and operations law chief with the U.S. Army Reserves in Des Moines, Iowa. Overall, he has served as a Reserve officer for 15 years, and before that was an active duty Army judge advocate for four years.
Before joining Tully Rinckey PLLC, Mr. Greiner successfully operated a solo practice in Des Moines where he handled a variety of legal matters including criminal defense, personal injury and civil litigation. Greg also extensively represented service members and non-military spouses in family and matrimonial law matters, including divorce, child support, child custody, and distribution of military benefits. Military divorces pose many unique challenges and pitfalls that civilians do not face, and Greg is able to lead service members and non-military spouses onto the path that leads to a fresh start in life.
Greg’s other experience includes serving as a prosecutor for the State of Iowa, and later as full-time defense attorney for the Iowa State Public Defender. Greg is a graduate of the prestigious Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College, and he has been a trainer for attorneys and paralegals in both the private sector and the military.
When not working, Greg enjoys spending time with family, studying military history, and volunteering for the YMCA.
