I'm not your typical lawyer.

Think lawyers only keep bankers’ hours? I meet with clients before work, after work, and on weekends; their hours are my hours. Think lawyers only write in unintelligible legalese? I write in plain English, and only plain English. Think lawyers are humorless? See if you can come up with a Monty Python quote I can’t identify by character, movie title, or television episode.

In the office I focus on litigation and appeals. But unlike other litigators, I actually try cases. To juries. In fact, the Indiana Jury Verdict Reporter recognized me as Indiana’s most prolific civil trial lawyer in 2018. I earned that distinction again in 2022, and was the runner-up in 2011.

My clients are individuals, businesses, and municipal entities who need representation in state and federal courts. I have tried cases to verdict across northern Indiana, and have represented clients in administrative proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Because appeals often accompany trials, I've been lead counsel in scores of appeals before the Indiana Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. I've persuaded the Indiana Supreme Court to grant transfer in three cases, and the Indiana Court of Appeals to accept jurisdiction in many interlocutory appeals. As a relatively new lawyer in 2001, my appellate advocacy garnered a commendation by the Indiana Court of Appeals in a published opinion.

Outside the office, my wife and I are now empty-nesters. When we're not doing something together, I enjoy gardening, reading, and a good single-malt scotch.
