Biography
I graduated from Wabash College in 1998, which I attended as an Eli Lilly Fellow, and I received Distinction – the highest grade awarded – on the comprehensive examinations in both my majors, Political Science and English.
After graduating, I spent several years working as a newspaper reporter. I worked for a variety of papers, both weekly and daily, throughout the Boston area and suburbs. My last few years were spent primarily as a politics reporter and as a courts and police reporter. I also honed my skills as an investigator (back in the days before one could simply Google up an answer...) and learned to love, or at least developed a significant tolerance for, document digging and paper chasing. The experience made me an avid researcher and interviewer, a diligent and skilled investigator, and a cogent, precise and analytical writer.
I received my law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 2009. During law school, I was a member of the school's law journal, was a research assistant for Professor Wendy Parmet, and was a judicial intern for the Hon. Raymond Brassard of the Superior Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and was a law clerk for the National Security Archive, Hrones, Garrity & Hedges, LLP, and Krokidas & Bluestein, LLP.
Despite graduating into what might be charitably described as a challenging legal economy, I was able to develop my skills as an attorney. In the absence of a post-graduation job, I basically made my own by working as a freelance attorney. The pay was frequently lousy, but I did actual lawyer work (as opposed to document-review) and cobbled together a number of interesting assignments, working for a variety of talented attorneys. By the time I was hired as an associate, I’d helped try a criminal case in federal court, written several appeals, worked on murders, complex drug conspiracies, gun cases, civil rights cases, done state and federal sentencing advocacy, and helped a few friends form and register their businesses.
I am now an associate at Hedges and Tumposky, LLP. I work on criminal matters – I am a bar advocate in Suffolk County, and do appellate work for indigent defendants – and assist in the firm’s civil rights and employment law matters.
I am a member of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Suffolk Lawyers for Justice, and the New England Marathon Swimming Association.
