Biography
After college, Mr. Griffin attended law school at the Norman A. Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University, and was a member of the first graduating class from the Raleigh campus. While there, he was extremely involved on campus: he was an Honor Court Justice twice, a Student Body Representative, a member of the Campbell Law Review, and a member of the Old Kivett Advocacy Council. While on the Law Review, his comment was selected for publication and has since been cited multiple times by the North Carolina Court of Appeals. During his spare time he interned with Chief Judge John Martin of the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg District Attorney’s Office, Judge Donald Smith, Judge John Tyson, and the Honorable Frank Whitney of United States District Court, Western District of North Carolina.
After passing the Bar Exam, Mr. Griffin took a job in Prosecutorial District 29B, a tri-county district that encompasses Polk, Transylvania, and Henderson counties. During his almost three years as a prosecutor, he primarily spent most of his time in Polk and Transylvania, and was in charge of the day to day running of District Court in those two counties. He was involved in the resolution of Superior and District Court Felonies and misdemeanors ranging from Attempted Murder to speeding tickets, and everything in-between. One of the cases he prosecuted in District and Superior Court, State v. Smathers, has since been heard by the North Carolina Court of Appeals; the Court took the opportunity to adopt a new doctrine as a valid exception to the Fourth Amendment’s warrant requirement. In 2012 he was one of two ADA’s chosen from his district to attend the National Institute of Crime Prevention’s week-long Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Conference in Las Vegas, NV. He has tried hundreds of cases in front of a variety of judges and over a dozen in front of juries.
State v. SmathersAfter returning to Charlotte, Mr. Griffin spent a year practicing domestic law before transitioning into non-domestic civil litigation (primarly insurance defense), which he practiced for approximately two and a half years. Currently, Mr. Griffin works as Chief Compliance Officer at Healthgram. Mr. Griffin is licensed to practice in: 1). North Carolina state court; 2). the Eastern and Western Districts of North Carolina Federal Court; and, 3). the Supreme Court of the United States.
