The license issued by the Virgina State Bar says that we are an "Attorney and Counselor at Law." While I believe that being an "Attorney" is very important (we have to know the law to practice our profession), I believe the "Counselor" portion of the title is more important. In order to be effective, we lawyers must have an understanding of our clients needs and a grasp of the human condition. We must be problem solvers. When someone asks me what type of law I practice (and I know they really mean my practice areas), I like to say instead that I practice the type of law that helps resolve the issue that my client is facing. I find that no two cases are alike and that no two clients are alike. However, I approach every case for every client the same - with a strong desire to resolve the case in the best interest of my client.
