James attended Drake University in Des Moines where he earned his Juris Doctorate. Prior to studying law, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. James is licensed and ready to serve clients in the state of Iowa.

Before joining the Des Moines, Iowa family lawyers, James most recently worked as the Director of Legal Affairs for a company in Ankeny, Iowa. In this role his tasks included managing and directing outside counsel in general litigation matters, while also overseeing and assisting with all legal related matters. Before this, James spent time working as an Assistant County Attorney and a Criminal Prosecutor in the State of Iowa for the Woodbury County Attorney’s Office. While in this role, he made charging decisions and ultimately filed charges where appropriate, argued pre-trial motions, sentencings, various hearings, and conducted jury and bench trials. In total, James brings over 20 years of legal experience to his role at Stange Law Firm. A seasoned attorney with a strong background in legal advisory and counsel, James looks forward to helping you during this emotional time in your life.
