Biography
James Thompson's practice deals primarily with oil and gas and energy law, with a focus on transactional matters. Mr. Thompson represents the full spectrum of oil and gas participants, including majors, independents, operators, non-operating working interest owners, oilfield service providers, marketers, and royalty and mineral owners. Mr. Thompson has represented buyers and sellers in the purchase and sale of oil and gas assets, lessees and lessors in all phases of oil and gas leasing, and operators and non-operators in connection with their exploration and development activities. His practice includes the negotiation, preparation and implementation of all types of oil and gas-related agreements, along with litigation support on disputes involving upstream and midstream energy issues. Mr. Thompson also handles transactional matters outside of the energy industry.
Mr. Thompson was born and raised in Houston and completed both his undergraduate and legal education at the University of Texas at Austin (B.A. Plan II Honors, 1997; J.D. with honors, 2001).
In 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, Mr. Thompson was recognized through voting by his peers as a Texas Rising Star for Energy and Natural Resources by Thomson Reuters (published in Texas Monthly).
