Jeffrey King is an attorney with over thirty-five years of experience in complex litigation, focusing on construction, employment, antitrust, intellectual property and corporate cases. He has handled a wide range of litigation at both trial and appellate levels, including jury trials, federal and state administrative agencies and arbitration. He has represented minority shareholders in disputes with the majority shareholders and tried cases involving complex commercial and banking contracts. He pioneered an effort to recover government contract underpayments and his clients recovered over $300 million from the federal government. He regularly advises clients on employment, corporate, contract and antitrust issues and has had the privilege of representing a number of trade associations, including serving as outside general counsel to the World Floor Covering.
To better assist his construction and government contractor, clients, Mr. King earned certification as an Accredited Professional under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) of the U.S. Green Building Council. He is knowledgeable on the other green standards, including the National Green Building Standard developed by the National Association of Home Builders, Green Globes® introduced by the Green Building Initiative and the International Green Construction Code. He is a frequently lecturer on these issues and has served as an adjunct professor at The George Washington University teaching law, ethics and risk management in Graduate Business School.
Today, Mr. King will be discussing the legal issue involved in writing inspection reports. He will focus on how inspectors can protect themselves from liability, how to respond to any pressure to change the report, and the steps that can be taken to ensure a report will hold up to a legal challenge. He will provide case studies where an inspector was found liable, and suggest some practical steps to avoid liability.
