Biography
John Edward Jones was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on March 24, 1943. His father was a school principle and mother was a school librarian. At the age of nine, John’s father was tragically killed by a drunk driver. This incident significantly altered his life and, through a story he tells often, caused his uncle to give him the nickname “Squire.” John would say, “Uncle Goody sat me and my cousin down and told us that my cousin would be a doctor to keep him well and that I would be an attorney to keep him out of trouble.” It was years later that this mission to seek justice and assist victims in need was confirmed. After obtaining an undergraduate degree from Florida State University and J.D. degree at Stetson University School of Law, Mr. Jones became an Attorney. He was admitted to practice in the Florida Bar in 1968 and later admitted into the U.S. District Court of Appeals, Middle District Court of Florida and U.S. Supreme Court in 1972. Mr. Jones also became an Active Duty JAG officer in the United States Navy and later obtained the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Reserves.
During this time in the United States Navy, John Edward Jones served on various charitable and civic organizations. Among those memberships (and titles) include: Orange County Bar Association, Seminole County Bar Association (Director, 1975-1978; Chairman, Legal Referral Committee, 1975-1976; 25 Years Service Award), American Bar Association, Christian Legal Society, The Florida Justice Association (Diplomat and EAGLE), The American Association of Justice (Sustaining Member), Williams Inns of Court (Member; President of Inns of Court Council, 1967-1968), Casselberry Rotary Club (President 1976-1977; Paul Harris Fellow), WACX-TV (Board of Directors) and Rotary International. Mr. Jones currently sits on the City of Casselberry-Community Redevelopment Agency Board, Calvary Housing, Inc. and assists the Oviedo Historical Society with program speakers. He is also the author of Reconciliation, a book that chronicles the need for a conciliatory process in our public, business and personal lives.
