Biography
John Hilkin earned his J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law where his work in Cyber Law, Communications Law, and Professional Responsibility was recognized with Jurisprudence Awards for best student. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan State College of Law Journal of Animal Law (Volume 7; 2011). John's 2009-2010 Case Law Review was published in the Volume 6 of the Journal of Animal Law (2010). He also worked as a clerk in the Ingham County (Michigan) Probate Court. John has experience practicing in a variety of legal areas including Criminal Law, Family Law, Estate Planning and Probate Law, First Amendment Law, and Real Estate Law. He is also one of the leading contributors to the firm's Criminal Defense Blog.
Before attending law school, John graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in English and a B.A. in Cinema. One of his experimental films was featured in the 2004 Bearded Child Film Festival, and many other films and creative writing pieces were featured in best student work exhibitions. John spent several years directing local newscasts in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and associate produced the local segments of the annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Labor Day Telethon.
Since joining Peter Loyd Weber & Associates in 2013, John Hilkin has assisted clients in multiple areas of law. He has appeared on behalf of clients at DMV hearings, handled initial hearings, and supported clients throughout the criminal defense process. He has assisted in the preparation of felony criminal defense trials, and worked with Angela Hahn on some of the firm's high profile cases.
