Biography
John Robinson grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and received his Bachelor's degree at the University of Nebraska before receiving his Juris Doctorate at the University of Wyoming in 1993. In 1998 - after more than twenty jury trials as a public defender - John went into private practice. He has been a partner in the Casper firm of Jamieson & Robinson, LLC since 2000. In the 20 years since returning to Wyoming, John’s practice has evolved into one focusing mainly on plaintiffs’ claims involving death or serious injury, insurance bad faith, civil rights prosecutions for government misconduct, as well as defending serious felony offenses. He has tried more than 50 jury trials in a variety of cases.
John's work for his clients has led to significant results for them, and also widespread changes in the law: nationally in the context of class action litigation: Byrd v. Aarons, Inc., __ F.3d __, 2015 WL 1727613 (3rd Cir. 2015) (narrowing of "ascertainability" hurdle for class action plaintiffs under Rule 23); and in Wyoming: Wilkerson v. State, 2014 WY 136 (new definition of malice in 2nd degree murder overturning 30 years of precedent); Larsen v. Banner Health, 2003 WY 167 (independent duty exception to general rule against recovering emotional damages absent physical injury).
