Biography
John L. Amsden is a 1988 honors graduate of Georgetown University Law School, where he served as Administrative Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal. Beginning in 1988, John practiced law in Los Angeles, California, where his practice concentrated on litigation and trial of complex business disputes. John has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in partnership disputes, federal and state securities litigation, accounting malpractice and insurance coverage disputes. John has had significant responsibility in several matters growing out of the failure of large municipal and corporate organizations, including the historic municipal bankruptcy and subsequent multi billion dollar litigation arising out of the 1994 bankruptcy filing of the County of Orange, California. John also has significant experience in the litigation and trial of commercial real estate, environmental, civil rights and land use disputes. His transactional experience includes the negotiation and sale of real and personal properties located in Singapore and Malaysia, and the accompanying return of investor capital to the United States.
After practicing law successfully as a partner in a specialized litigation firm in Los Angeles, John and his family chose to return home to Montana. John returns to the firm where he previously worked as a law clerk during his undergraduate studies.
John is admitted to practice in the State of Montana, as well as the federal courts in Montana and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. John was born and raised in Eastern Montana and graduated from Powder River County High School in 1979 and from Montana State University with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering in 1984.
John is an active marathon runner with a beautiful wife, four children, and an abundant vegetable garden.
