Biography
John’s entertainment law work is informed by fifteen years in the trenches of media production, giving him a practical understanding of his clients’ issues. Prior to obtaining his J.D., he enjoyed a long and successful career as a writer/producer of non-fiction programming, both independently and in-house at A&E, Comcast, Dick Clark Productions, Time Warner, and Hearst. John’s work on the renowned Biography series and E!’s True Hollywood Story won him a Gracie Award, an Emmy nomination, and a Prism Award Commendation.
In his law practice, John has represented independent clients in a wide range of fields including publishing, video games, internet business, film, and television, handling issues such as legal delivery, risk management, screenplay and book options, chain of title research, financing, and business formation. On the studio side, he served as a business affairs executive for MGM unscripted, overseeing production of network titles including The Voice and Shark Tank. Most recently, John led the team implementing the Rightsline rights management database at Amazon Studios where he worked with stakeholders across the network and reviewed agreements from all around the world.
John is a member of the State Bar of California. He earned his J.D. in the prestigious accelerated two-year program at Southwestern Law, his B.A. from Columbia University in the City of New York, and attended Choate Rosemary Hall. He has volunteered with L.A. for Choice, and served as a panel attorney for California Lawyers for the Arts.
