Karen Marvel began her legal career in 1987. She is an expert on back child support collection, the application of interest and enforcement in Marvel Law Group Karen represents clients in divorce, complex property divisions, custody and child support enforcement issues. She welcomes cases with special needs children -- an area where she has first hand knowledge. She holds a board certification in Family Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Known for her articles and lectures, Karen writes and speaks extensively about child support for continuing legal education statewide. Every year since 2008 she has been honored through peer review as a Super Lawyer in Family Law by Texas Super Lawyers magazine.

Client Work

Taking care of families in the midst of difficult issues is Karen's passion. Karen believes in pragmatic solutions to difficult cases, drawing on her years of experience to guide clients through the legal system. Karen successfully represented clients at courts of appeals and the Texas Supreme Court in a landmark case that helped change the law on child support collection and the application of interest on child support. The law now allows collection of past-due child support, with interest, no matter when the parties divorced. 

Karen also serves the legal community and the public through her work with the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas (3d Edtion Checklist Committee member and drafter), the Family Law Section of the San Antonio Bar Association (past president and board member) and the San Antonio Family Lawyer's Association for board certified family law attorneys (past president and board member).  She is a life member of the Texas Family Law Foundation - an nonprofit dedicated to improving family law for all citizens of Texas.

Outside the office, Karen is a wife and mother of young adults, including one with special needs. She works with numerous school and neighborhood groups.
