Biography
Katherine E. Lewis is an Associate in the Intellectual Property department. She concentrates her practice areas in Information Technology, New Media, and Visual Arts. She works with technology and security firms, entertainment service providers, artists, writers, art foundations, museums and other cultural organizations and not for profit organizations
Prior to joining Meister Seelig & Fein LLP, Ms. Lewis was an Attorney-Advisor in the Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Contracting. While at the Smithsonian, Ms. Lewis advised and negotiated agreements for a variety of museums and central business offices in a variety of subject areas including digital and new media, software and digital app development, software licensing, filming, publishing and distribution, consumer product licensing, artist commissioning, acquisitions, loan agreements, and more.
Ms. Lewis is Council Member of the Section of the ABA’s Section of Science & Technology, Chair of the Museum and the Arts Law Committee and Member of the Copyright and Literary Property Committee of the New York City Bar Association. She is a frequent speaker for ABA programs and regional and national museum associations on legal issues facing museums, specifically as they relate to Intellectual Property and Information Technology. Ms. Lewis has published on topics including Intellectual Property, Information Technology in Museums, Cultural Property, Social Media and Copyright Law.
Ms. Lewis has been a guest lecturer for Museum Studies Programs at the Harvard Extension School and Tufts University and she has volunteered as a judge and brief grader in the Annual National Cultural Heritage Law Moot Court Competition, hosted by DePaul University College of Law’s Center for Art, Museum & Cultural Heritage Law and co-sponsored by the Lawyers’ Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation.
