Biography
Lan Diep believes that service is the strategy of applying local solutions to our nation's most pressing problems. In his professional and personal life, he strives to help communities gain access to justice and to further the public interest.
Most recently, Lan served as a Shartsis Friese LLP Public Interest Fellow at the Legal Aid Society - Employment Law Center in San Francisco. In this capacity he led the Vietnamese American Workers' Rights Project, educating limited-English-proficient and low-income Vietnamese Americans about their rights under employment law and providing limited representation to help enforce those rights.
Prior to that, Lan served as an Equal Justice Works/AmeriCorps Legal Fellow at the Mississippi Center for Justice. There, he helped low-income victims of the BP Oil Disaster - predominantly limited-English-proficient Vietnamese American fishermen who account for a third of the region’s fishermen - across the five Gulf states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida understand their rights and assisted them in filing their claims against the Gulf Coast Claims Facility. For this work he was recognized by the Huffington Post as the "Greatest Person of the Day" for April 27, 2011, by the White House as a "Champion of Change", and by President George H. W. Bush’s Points of Light Institute as its 4,748th recipient of the Daily Point of Light Award.
Lan also provides English-to-Vietnamese interpretation and translation services to government entities, law firms, and organizations as needed.
