Biography
Mr. Long, a lifelong resident of the Philadelphia area, specializes in fighting for his clients' rights.
Mr. Long graduated with honors from Rutgers School of Law in Camden, where he served as an editor on the Rutgers Journal of Law and Urban Policy. At graduation, Mr. Long was honored with the Richard Barber Memorial Award in recognition for his pursuit of justice through public service. During law school, Mr. Long gained invaluable experience while serving as the law clerk for the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey.
Following graduation, Mr. Long was appointed as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia. As an appellate and post-conviction prosecutor, he successfully litigated hundreds of cases, some of which changed the away that drug offenses were prosecuted in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. During his tenure as a prosecutor, Mr. Long gained extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of a criminal trial, including pre- and post-trial matters, appellate procedure, and the Post-Conviction Relief Act (“P.C.R.A.”). This substantial experience has not only produced exceptional results for his clients in private practice, but has made Mr. Long a valuable resource for his colleagues in the Philadelphia criminal defense bar.
In private practice, Mr. Long has enjoyed great success in each of his practice areas. He has successfully defended clients in criminal trials accused of serious crimes, including a not guilty verdict for an individual charged with arson whom police claimed to have arrested with the gas can used in the arson and witnesses had identified as the person who had started the fire. He has also successfully defended individuals charged with burglary, robbery, riot, drug delivery, sex offenses, weapons offenses, and driving under the influence.
Mr. Long has similarly enjoyed significant success in post-trial practice, which he truly enjoys. Mr. Long has successfully pursued appellate relief for numerous clients, including overturned convictions based on insufficient evidence, incorrect evidentiary rulings, suppression motions, and improper sentences. Additionally, Mr. Long has successfully overturned convictions through the Post-Conviction Relief Act, including one case in which he demonstrated that his client’s prior attorney had been at fault for a conviction on insurance fraud charges. Following a retrial in which the jury was deadlocked, Mr. Long secured an offer for his client that did not include a criminal conviction.
Mr. Long's practice is based on one premise: doing his best for his clients.
