Biography
Meeting a new client is like meeting a whole new universe. I love people more than I love the law. Knowing the law is like knowing a different language. Being a good lawyer entails being a good communicator. Being a good communicator necessitates being a good listener, a very attentive listener. My knowledge of the law helps my clients navigate the problems or issues facing them. It makes me feel good to be of help. Over the past 30 years, I have helped hundreds, thousands of people. The cultures change as new populations have immigrated to the USA and New Jersey. Sometimes the laws don't keep pace with the needs of our society or individual people. Sometimes the laws are actually backward and not helpful. I help bridge the gap by being attentive to my clients so that, again, they can navigate through troubled waters with my help and resume their lives with normalcy restored and bright outlooks for the future.
I think "outside the box" when necessary to find creative solutions for my clients in dealing with often "mindless" laws. At times, I have actually changed existing law. For example, I had a clent hire me to defend him on a DUI charge and ended up bringing a constitutional challenge to New Jersey's DMV roadblocks known innocuously as "roadside safety checks". I challenged these roadblocks as unconstitutional arbitrary stops of law-abiding New Jersey motorists stopped to inspect their cars, when New Jersey already had inspected the cars b y way of the constitutionally non-invasive motor vehicle inspection system. You know it as the inspection station system we all have to go to every few years to get our cars inspected at. The case became my "cause celebre", my personal civil liberties cause for 3 years of my life and went up to the Appellate Division twice and also to the New Jersey Supreme Court. These cases are memorialized in 2 published opinions both known as "State of New Jersey versus Edward Kadelak". So, when you come to me, you never know when a DUI case can turn into a constitutional challenge.
Potential clients should feel free and not hesitate to call when they feel the need to talk to a lawyer urgently. My meter will not run until I tell you it's running. I will listen to whatever your issue is. If I can help, I let you know. And I always try to make just solutions happen.
