Biography
Mario Treto, Jr. serves as the Acting Director of Real Estate for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in Governor Pritzker's cabinet. In this role, Treto is the head regulator for the State of Illinois' real estate industry, overseeing professional education, licensure, regulation, and discipline for nearly 100,000 licensees working in six real estate related professions. Treto's final appointment is pending confirmation approval from the Illinois State Senate.
Previously, Mario served as the Deputy City Attorney for the City of Evanston, where he provided legal counsel to its elected officials, departments, and staff with compliance, transactional, and corporate matters. Mario authored over 600 pieces of legislation, and collaborated with municipalities nationwide in filing amicus briefs on behalf of the City. Treto also worked at a Chicago firm focusing his law practice in commercial & residential real estate, corporate law, and commercial transactions.
In addition, Treto serves on various civic boards and committees. He is Chairman of the Howard Brown Health Board of Directors, Hispanic National Bar Association Deputy Regional President, Maurer School of Law Latino Alumni Board President, and Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow. Treto is a nationally recognized lawyer by various organizations, including the International Municipal Lawyers Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, and the National LGBT Bar. He has received leadership accolades from Crain’s Business Magazine, Business Equality Magazine, and Hispanic business publication, Negocios Now. In 2018 he was presented with the Humanitario/Humanitarian Annual Award by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
