Biography
Mary McNamara Koch is a partner at Murphy, Falcon & Murphy, having come on board at the persistent requests of Judge Billy Murphy. In her first trial with the firm in 2010, she orchestrated a $34.33 million verdict in a case involving a group of restaurant employees in Baltimore who suffered brain damage because of a carbon monoxide leak – one of the top ten largest settlements in the country that year.
Ms. Koch is widely regarded as Murphy, Falcon & Murphy’s “woman of steel.” Her persistence, preparation, and indefatigable desire to win have led her to a string of successes in trial, private practice, and beyond.
Ms. Koch tirelessly reviews all facets of her cases. As an attorney, her preparation allows her to anticipate unforeseen complications and present unconventional leads: “The practice of law is creative. Cases morph, not always the way you want them to, but you have to be able to control the way they can transform. You have to remain creative from beginning to end.”
Ms. Koch began her career as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore City. Her tenacity and endless preparation led her to win over 100 felony jury trials, losing just one. In 1997, she was designated as Special Assistant United States Attorney, where she remained for two years before entering into the private sector of the law. Ms. Koch is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College and the University of Baltimore School of Law.
