Biography
Matt Casey is a founding partner of Ross Feller Casey, LLP, among the nation’s top catastrophic injury law firms. Casey has achieved record-setting results for his clients in all areas of personal injury law, from medical malpractice, birth injuries, brain and spinal cord injuries, premises liability, and product liability.
Casey’s reputation in the Pennsylvania legal community as a preeminent litigator and an unyielding advocate for his clients is well deserved.
Over the past four years alone, Casey recovered more than $430 million, including some of the largest settlements and verdicts of their kind in Pennsylvania.
The list of cases includes:
- $29 million for a brain-injured child
- $25 million for injuries suffered as a result of a defective automobile
- $22.5 million for the failure to diagnose and treat an aneurysm
- $19.5 million for neurological damage to a baby
- $19.5 million for a man injured by dangerous equipment at work
- $19.5 million for a child with cerebral palsy
- $19.3 million for brain injuries occurring during delivery
- $19.25 million for medical malpractice that led to a baby’s brain injury
- $17.5 million for a stroke that caused paralysis
Casey is one of a very few attorneys in Pennsylvania history to have won multiple seven and multiple eight-figure verdicts. He has successfully litigated five eight-figure jury verdicts in catastrophic injury cases and has settled many more for eight-figure values – all before his 50th birthday.
Casey earned international media attention for his successful litigation of civil cases against Penn State University on behalf of numerous sexual assault victims of Jerry Sandusky, a former football coach. Casey and Ross Feller Casey represented more victims than any other firm and were instrumental in striking the eventual $60 million global settlement with the university.
He has litigated numerous other high profiled cases, including:
- An $85 million verdict for a man who fell through an open manhole in Philadelphia. It is the highest premises liability verdict ever in the state
- A confidential settlement on behalf of a young doctor who died as a result of medical negligence at a Northeast Pennsylvania hospital
- A $23.1 million verdict for a 55-year-old woman who lost both her legs due to medical negligence. The result was among the largest verdicts ever in Lehigh County, Pa.
- A $19.1 million verdict in what became the largest insurance bad-faith recovery in Pennsylvania history
Casey earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to receive his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
