Biography
Matt Crumpton is a lawyer who has worn many hats: attorney, entrepreneur, executive, musician and philanthropist.
Crumpton began his career at the Columbus corporate law firm Porter Wright, representing Fortune 500 companies in the litigation and intellectual property departments. He then launched Crumpton Law LLC where he was the managing partner focusing on litigation, entity formation, and transactional work for small businesses and musicians.
In 2012, Crumpton successfully led the effort (including all of the negotiation and legal work) of D.P. Dough Franchising, LLC to acquire the D.P. Dough restaurant brand from its founder. For the next seven years, Crumpton led the D.P. Dough brand, first as Executive Vice President, then as President and CEO. In 2019, Crumpton sold the D.P. Dough brand to Calzone King, LLC as part of a merger with the Calios brand into D.P. Dough.
During Crumpton’s time as the chief executive of the D.P. Dough franchise, the brand grew from 17 locations to 37 locations and was ranked as a Top 200 Food Franchise by Entrepreneur magazine from 2016-2019. His tenure resulted in 24 consecutive quarters (6 years) of same-store sales growth for the D.P. Dough brand which is the 487th largest franchise in the world by sales volume according to Franchise Times.
Additionally, during his time with D.P. Dough, Crumpton oversaw successful marketing moonshots such as being the first restaurant chain to have a video game where you can earn online loyalty points towards free food (Calzone Run) and launching a rapping calzone cartoon mascot (Stoney Calzoney).
In 2019, Crumpton and business partner Jerry DePizzo purchased the Big Mamma's Burritos restaurant chain, which Crumpton is currently developing.
In his free time, Crumpton works with Music Loves Ohio, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization he founded that has provided over $75,000 in instrument and classroom grants and tuition scholarships to financially underserved Central Ohio youth to pursue their passion for music since 2010.
A lifelong musician, Crumpton plays bass, piano, and guitar in his 90s rap jam band, The Winnie Cooper Project, which was named the 3rd best cover band in Columbus from 2010-2018 according to 614 Magazine.
