Biography
An experienced attorney whose practice focuses exclusively on counseling nonprofits, their donors, and benefit corporations.
A native of the midwest, I earned my bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University in 1993 majoring in Diplomacy and International Security and my law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 2006 where I served as an editor on the Michigan Law Review. I am also a graduate of the Naval War College, College of Distance Education.
A lifetime of service. In college, I was a volunteer emergency medical technician on our college ambulance service, rising to the level of driver crew chief and director of training. After college and before law school, I spent ten years as a helicopter pilot in the United States Navy. I continued to serve in the Navy Reserve after leaving active duty in 2003. I am an instrument-rated commercial airplane and helicopter pilot. After law school, I was a law clerk to the honorable Michael S. Kanne on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. After two years practicing at a mid-sized midwest law firm, I spent a year in Afghanistan helping the government of Afghanistan on anti-corruption and rule of law in developing a national police force, providing advice to the nascent department of parliamentary affairs. From 2010 to 2022, I was a federal prosecutor.
My personal charitable work involves animal rescue, disaster relief, veterans' mental health initiatives, and blood cancer charity fundraising.
