Biography
Attorney Matthew L. Van Grinsven is from Appleton where he was born and eventually went on to attend Appleton West High School. His focus is on criminal defense, mental commitments, and juvenile law. From a young age he has had an interest in the United States’ criminal justice system. He followed this interest to the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities where he received a BA in Political Science and Sociology: LCD (Law, Criminology, and Deviance). At Minnesota his interest in a specific question was solidified when he won an essay contest with an essay titled “Rigged: From Suspicion to Verdict, the United States Criminal Justice System Disadvantages People Accused of Crimes”. This continued interest took him to Mitchell Hamline School of Law here he earned his JD. While there, he earned an award for having the best grade in his Wrongful Convictions class. He is an avid fan of the Wisconsin Badgers football and basketball teams. Further he enjoys staycations with his family which includes a young daughter. He understands that you are most likely meeting him at one of the worst moments and your life and he is driven by being able to make your situation as good as it can be.
