I’m an attorney, licensed in the courts of Washington State, in the United States Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and in the United States Supreme Court. Following twenty years in private practice, I had the unbelievable good fortune to become a higher education attorney as Corporation Counsel at Gonzaga University for twelve years. Also, I served (and continue to serve)as an adjunct faculty member at the Gonzaga University School of Law, where I’ve taught two courses dozens of times: Antitrust Law, and Remedies Law.
As a solo higher ed lawyer, I was always grateful for the collegiality of other higher ed lawyers, especially through our national organization, or by just picking up the phone. Those resources always served well. But sometimes there was a need to more significantly bring in a lawyer from the outside - to deal with a conflict, to look after more narrowed interests of individuals or departments, or to consult on especially sensitive matters. Frankly, I found that local attorneys rarely had the expertise and experience to come into those situations in a cost effective way for the institution.
I want to make tough problems like that easier for higher ed communities to deal with by engaging to consult closely with you, including coming to your campus for on-the-ground action, to help you find your remedy. To that end, I am excited to offer Higher Ed Remedies to you.
