Biography
I graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1987. In 1988 I joined the Knox County Law Director's Office, where I served as Deputy Law Director until 2000, when I was elected Law Director. In those roles I advised every board, agency and elected official within Knox County government. I litigated in the areas of zoning and land use, personal injury defense, contract and business law and civil rights. I had extensive experience in Appellate practice, appearing on multiple occasions before the Tennessee Court of Appeals, the Tennessee Supreme Court and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
In 2006 I was elected Chancellor for the 6th Judicial District (Knox County). I served in that position for over 14 years, retiring in January 2021. In that role I gained extensive experience in family law and adoption, will contests and undue influence matters, contract interpretation and all other areas within the equity jurisdiction of the Tennessee Chancery Courts. As Chancellor, I engaged in formal and informal mediation of cases, believing that agreement and compromise is superior in most cases to judicial fiat.
In January 2021 I am excited to join the law firm of Bernstein, Stair and McAdams. I plan to specialize in mediation, family law, representing citizens before government boards and commissions, and appellate practice. Please feel free to contact me at my new office if I may be of service to you.
