Biography

Michelle L. Buckalew, licensed to practice in Louisiana and Florida, is committed to protecting employer's rights. She has extensive experience representing businesses and public entities of all sizes. She is also an accomplished appellate lawyer with numerous reported opinions to her credit.

Ms. Buckalew concentrates her practice in the areas of labor and employment law. She has received numerous court opinions in favor of her clients, sparing them the expense of litigation and trial.

She has also represents businesses in a variety of areas including contract disputes, formation, commercial transactions, and various torts.

In addition, Ms. Buckalew has experience in litigating constutional law claims on behalf of local governmental entities and police departments from allegations of violations of civil rights including freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association, freedom against illegal search and seizure, and freedom from excessive punishment and excessive force.

Ms. Buckalew also consults with businesses in developing employment practices and procedures, hiring and firing decisions, employee discipline, and internal HR audits. When consulting, her goal is to apply her extensive knowledge of employment law gained from years of litigation to prevent clients from the hassle, costs and loss of productivity that litigation can often bring to businesses.

Ms. Buckalew is available for and frequently provides presentations to businesses and organizations on employment law primers and updates. She has published several articles on employment law issues including the "Top 8 Employment Law Issuesfor 2008," HR Florida Review, May 2008, and "Navigating Reductions in Force in a Turbulent Economy," HR Issues and Insights, April 2008.
