Biography
Mitchell T. Ehrlich is a California Certified Family Law Specialist and is a partner with Lonich Patton Ehrlich Policastri. He’s been a cornerstone of Lonich Patton Ehrlich Policastri PC for the past 25 years and was instrumental in guiding the firm from a modest team of three attorneys (Lonich & Patton LLP) to a robust practice of 15 family lawyers and one the premiere and most respected Family Law firms in the Bay Area.
Mitchell has been a partner since 2007 and a California Certified Family Law Specialist since 2009. His expertise is in litigating complex family law trials, with substantial experience trying over 50 case to verdict on issues ranging from high net worth asset division, long-term spousal support, child custody and relocations, date of separation and domestic violence cases. He always provides detailed personal attention to every client.
Mitchell has litigated upwards of 500 contested motions on all family law issues and has taken hundreds of case through mediation and settlement conferences and has successfully resolved hundreds of complex cases, showcasing a keen ability to navigate high-stakes negotiations and deliver favorable outcomes. Due to his extensive trial skills, he has held seminars on trial skills, deposition skills, and domestic violence.
Mitchell is very aware of the fact that he practices in a field in which, quite often, his clients and their children are in the midst of an emotionally stressful and financially difficult situation, where their futures seem uncertain and making decisions can be difficult. Relying on his thorough understanding of the law, his extensive trial background and his experience handling sensitive matters, he endeavors to offer his clients his valuable experience, counsel and advice on the many complicated legal issues they face and the impacts of their decisions on themselves, their children and their financial lives.
Mitchell always provides his clients with timely and detailed attention, along with a clear goal-oriented approach to their issues. Further, drawing on his Economics Degree and his experience in finance, Mitchell has a keen ability to analyze and explain in plain English, the many complicated financial issues that Family Law matters so often entail.
Recognizing both the emotional and exceeding high financial toll that can be associated with prolonged litigation, Mitchell seeks to avoid needless litigation and he focuses his efforts on reaching settlements and informal resolutions where possible. However, when a reasonable settlement that serves his client’s best interest cannot be reached, he draws upon his extensive trial experience to obtain favorable verdicts to the myriad of issues facing his clients.
Mr. Ehrlich is a member of the State Bar of California, the Santa Clara Bar Association. Beverly Hills Bar Association and the State and Local Bar Family Law Sections. He engages in many professional activities including serving as Judge Pro Tem for the Santa Clara County Family Court and serving as an Arbitrator for the Santa Clara County Bar Association's Attorney Client Fee Disputes Division. Mr. Ehrlich has also served as a Traffic Court Judge Pro Tem. Mr. Ehrlich has volunteered his time with Elevate Community Center Domestic Violene Clinics, has handled cases with Pro Bono Project and has volunteered with Pro Bono Association's Lawyers in the Library Program.
He is also active civically, have been President or Vice President of the Willow Glen Neighborhood Association a 501(c )(4) which represents 40,000+ Willow Glen residents, advocating with local government officials on community issues including development, homeless and traffic. He previously served as Chair City of San Jose Traffic Appeals Commission overseeing appeals related to SJ Department of Transportation decisions on stop signs and traffic calming measures.
Mitchell grew up in San Jose and graduated college with an Economics Degree from the UC Santa Barbara in 1993. After working in consumer and real estate finance for several years, he attended Pepperdine University School of Law during which he made the Deans Honors List numerous times, earned multiple scholarships, and had temporary assignments with the Washington D.C. Public Defender’s Office, the U.S.D.A. and the U.S. District Bankruptcy Court. Mr. Ehrlich graduated Cum Laude from Pepperdine in 1998, and then returned to San Jose to begin the active practice of law.
