Nelson is from Arab, Alabama. He graduated with special honors in his major at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama in 2015 where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice. In 2019 he finished in the top third of his class at Samford University, Cumberland School of Law. While at Cumberland, he served as the President of the Federalist Society, a Senior Member of the Trial Board, competed on the Mediation Team, and made Dean’s List every semester. Nelson was admitted to practice in Georgia in 2019 and Alabama in 2020.

As an Alabama native, when Nelson in not cheering for the Crimson Tide, he spends his free time with his wife and friends going hiking, fishing, or camping.
