Former Assistant District Attorney and Special Assistant United States Attorney.  Tried over fifty jury trials, including five first-degree murder cases (one capital). 

Prosecuted hundreds of other felony cases (eight homicides) that resulted in non-trial dispositions.  Worked with expert witnesses in a number of disciplines such as DNA, drug chemistry, ballistics, serology, fingerprints, forensic pathology, and forensic psychiatry.  Handled almost every type of case as a state prosecutor, including traffic, DWI, drugs, fraud, property crimes, firearm offenses, common law/armed robbery, and murder.

In September 2014 and in August 2015, delivered presentation on intellectual disability and the death penalty to other prosecutors at the NC Conference of District Attorneys' Capital Litigation Conference.

Assisted in screening potential capital cases with other senior prosecutors and helped to review potential vehicular homicide cases as a member of the motor vehicle traffic fatality unit.  Served as lead arson case screener.

Researched and analyzed complex legal issues.  Trained new law enforcement personnel on courtroom procedures and assisted less experienced prosecutors with their trial preparation and trial advocacy skills.
