Biography
Patrick Short is a trial lawyer based in Rockwall County, Texas, the county east of Dallas County with over 39 years of experience representing clients in East and North Texas in personal injury, wrongful death, criminal defense, and selected civil litigation matters. Patrick is Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and in Criminal Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He is also Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Patrick is one of eight lawyers in the State of Texas that are double Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in both Personal Injury Trial Law and Criminal Law.
Patrick enjoys spending time with his wife of 39 years, sitting on the couch watching a good movie, reading a good book or continuing to explore the Old and New Testament and the evidence of the truths claimed therein, often with a good cup of hot tea. Milk and sugar please!
Patrick enjoys cooking—making a great breakfast frittata, Rib-eye or Chili. He often tries cases in his head before he commits them to paper. Some of that is done over the stove when the mood strikes him.
Patrick enjoys fishing periodically and likes to dream of becoming as good with a fly rod as he is at speaking in a courtroom.
Growing up fatherless and the only child of a WWII polish-immigrant mother, he understands life’s struggles—and yes, its pain. Over the years, he has learned that even in tough circumstances the Giver of Life is there. And that He is the father to the fatherless. Patrick tries to encourage his clients that they are not alone in their legal struggle.
You might understand him more and why he loves being a trial lawyer if you get the chance to talk to him in a legal consultation. Ask him: “Where were you Christmas Day when you were 17?” Even if you don’t work together on your legal case, his answer may be an encouragement to you as you sojourn your way through life.
