Biography
The key to being a successful trial lawyer lies in having the insight to determine whether to litigate or negotiate, as well as the skill to assess and adapt to changing dynamics when in the courtroom. I bring to my clients decades of experience representing individuals and businesses in state and federal courts, as well as alternative dispute venues. My strength lies in using my well-honed trial skills to anticipate the human factors presented by judges, juries, witnesses and opposing counsel in court.
I concentrate my practice in the areas of criminal defense, complex contested family law matters and estate litigation. My previous experience as an assistant state’s attorney in the State Attorneys’ Office for Montgomery County (1970-1975), where I prosecuted serious felony matters and managed a trial team, allows me to provide exceptional insight from multiple perspectives when handling clients’ matters.
A life-long student of trial law and advocacy, I also teach, passing on my passion for the courtroom to the next generation of trial lawyers. For nearly 30 years, I have served as an adjunct professor in the Trial Practice Program at American University’s Washington College of Law, and has also taught litigation to paralegals at the University of Maryland. Additionally, I have lectured to bar groups and the community on criminal and family law.
