Rick is a native Charlottean. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1990 and his Juris Doctorate law degree from the Wake Forest University School of Law in 1993.

In 1993 Rick began his law career as an associate with Price & Smith Attorneys at Law in Charlotte, NC. After six years, in 1999, he was named as a partner with the firm. In 2017, Rick founded Price Petho & Anderson Attorneys at Law, where he practiced until 2020. In September of 2020, Rick merged with Attorney, Mark Sumwalt founding the Sumwalt Anderson Law Firm.
