Biography
Robert Ross, a founding partner at Ross Feller Casey, LLP, has established a preeminent presence in Pennsylvania and New Jersey through a long series of remarkable courtroom victories and settlements, some of the largest in those states.
Ross's work on medical malpractice, birth injury, brain injury and other personal injury cases has led to more than a half-billion dollars in recoveries for his clients. He is known throughout legal circles for his deep, unmatched understanding of the law and his relentless commitment to fighting for his clients.
Ross won an extraordinary verdict of more than $44 million for a woman who tragically suffered a brain injury as a result of medical malpractice at a Philadelphia hospital. During the trial, he convinced the jury that doctors failed to recognize the adverse reaction Andrea Tate was having to the anti-coagulant drug heparin before she suffered a catastrophic brain hemorrhage. The outcome became the largest verdict in a medical malpractice case seen in years in Pennsylvania.
In New Jersey, Ross won a $22 million verdict in a case involving an El Salvadorian immigrant who suffered massive blood loss as she delivered a baby. It had taken more than an hour to establish a blood transfusion, which resulted in cardiac arrest and damage to the woman’s brain. The verdict was one of the largest of its kind ever in New Jersey.
Both cases generated widespread media coverage.
In another high-profile case, Ross represented a young boy who suffered anaphylactic shock and brain damage from eating peanuts. At trial, Ross argued that pediatricians and allergists had failed to warn the child's parents of the serious nature of the allergy. They also failed to order an EpiPen, which, Ross convinced the jury, could have mitigated the anaphylaxis. Jurors awarded $10 million in the case, and a month later, the prestigious National Law Journal picked Ross as its "Litigator of the Month".
Over the past two years alone, Ross recovered well in excess of $100 million on behalf of individual clients.
In his more than three decades in the courtroom, Ross has teamed with other lawyers for spectacular results:
- $51 million for a 4-year-old boy who lost a foot in a subway escalator.
- $29.6 million for a pier collapse in Philadelphia in which three people were killed and dozens more injured.
- $25 million for a case of malpractice in which a doctor died following a medical procedure for fertility.
- $15 million for medical errors made during heart surgery on a baby with Down Syndrome.
